Why is Audacity taking so long to export an mp3?

I made a short of a song (like 1:30), and the elapsed time is 32 minutes. It's still saving. D; Last time I exported a file as an mp3, it did the same thing. I realized after it was done that it totally screwed up the audio. I'm worried now?
