I told my girlfriend she has fat thighs and she seemed very upset by that, why?

She was asking for an honest opinion on her new jeans and I told her that her thighs are just too fat to wear something that tight fit. She just left shouting a world of abuse at me. Why would she ask me for an honest opinion when she can't handle the truth?
